My boyfriend does this a lot. He recommends that you go to your local car parts store (ie...Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts). They sale a whole kit, that includes the freon you need & the tools you need, with the instructions. The kit costs approx. $29 or so. The brand doesn't really matter, but the store brand works just fine. Hope this helps! It would cost more money to get it professionally done. A lot of people aren't aware that this kit can now be purchased in auto parts stores, because it used to be illegal. It is safe to make sure that your car takes the 134-A before using it. (The auto parts store can help you with this as well....for free)

brand name doesn't matter it's all the same chemical, if your vehicle is not equipped for 134-a you will have to retrof it, you can not mix 134-a with any other freon, and if you do not have any knowledge of the a/c system, you may be putting your life at risk or causing severe damage to the system, it takes special equipment to do the job right

sunrise is not completely correct because the system is a sealed system and needs to be leak tested, evacuated and recharged LAST - see a professional for the best results.
