If someone is able to walk but crippled from Cerebral Palsey and mentally damaged since birth, can read and write very little, can't follow directions, why wouldn't he receive more disability income? He only receives 558.00 a month and is expected to live alone on this income.

It depends on what state he lives in but in NY the max is $680 in SSI payments. Then he can get food stamps. Section 8 will pay approx 60% the rent of approved housing. And HEAP will give him up to $400 a year toward utilities. Check with Social Services in your state. Oh, they almost always turn you down the first time you apply, so be prepared for it. Keep after them and he'll get what he deserves. Hope this helps.

Is is Soc Sec Disability? did he file for SSI and what state is he in? Some states pay more than others for SSI.
