Yes, the female has red marking.

The mark is not always red. According to wiki;

Adult female black widow spiders are shiny black with an hourglass shaped marking on the bottom of its abdomen which, although most commonly red, may range in color from white to yellow to various shades of orange and red.

Only the females, they are larger than the male too.They also kill the poor bastard if he hangs around too long, hence the negative connotation on the term 'black widow'.

black widow spiders almost always have the hour glass shape of red on them.... they are round and very shiney black, it is usually the femal that you see cause after breeding they eat the males, their web is very very sticky! look up spiders if in dought, better safe than sorry!

I just know that the red ones are female, and they are deadly.
I think just plain blk. ones are harmless. ( not sure tho )...
