I asked a similar question and someone's answer made the answer hit me.... his religion is considered... 'weirdo'

Seriously, do you think that if he was a Christian, ppl would have been this hard on him.

Personally, since when do we abolish movie stars for having an opinion or being different. Geez ppl......... I love movies. I never watch sitcoms and come on... the MAN IS GOOD!!!!!

I love movies, too, and I will never endorse another Tom Cruise movie. I liked him in "Risky Business" & "Top Gun" but that was before he got "too weird."

It's not the fact that he's a Scientologist. It's how he works it.

Jumping up & down on Oprah's sofa was bad enough. Telling off Matt Lauer was perhaps a bit gauche. What really bothered me was how he proselytized his religion: "you're wrong & I'm right!"

There are plenty of celebrities in Hollywood who hold different religious beliefs. But do they get all evangelical like Cruise does? I get the idea that he would make a great evangelical Christian if he could only fill up football stadiums like Billy Graham does. And he's got to look for additional sources of income now that Spielberg's too embarrassed to work with him anymore.

You mentioned Christian celebrities, but what about Catholics such as Mel Gibson? Do you think that he was ostracized more for being a Catholic or for espousing religious views that were intolerant of religious differences?

I think very carefully about where I want to invest my money, even on a day-to-day basis where I'd prefer to "buy local," and stay away from corporations that do not share my values.

I've got friends & associates who are Christians. I support them. But that's not the issue. Why should I support those who deny me the right to believe as I do? That goes for the movie theater box office, too.

I really don't think being or not being a Christian had anything to do with it. It was the fact that 1. He promotes Scientology when it should remain a personal choice. 2. Katy Holmes is a child.
3. He made a huge deal about post partem depression and anti depressants, when he should have kept his big ego, and big mouth shut. People shouldn't be aloud to rattle on and on about something they know NOTHING about, and never will. 4. He really made people wonder if he was mentally unstable when he did the whole couch thing on Oprah.
All of that stupidity is what made him loose his contract in my opinion.

Tom Cruise's religion isn't the problem. It's the fact that he goes on and on about it in interveiws. He's been a Scientologist since the 80's,however it's only been in the past 4 or 5 years that he seems real fanatic about to the point where that's all he publicly talks about.Tom Cruise is weird and he is a loose cannon.Have you seen his interview with Matt Laurer or Oprah Winfrey? The guy can't seem to keep his mouth shut.Tom Cruise is his own worse enemy.

If what came out of his mouth had nothing to do with religion, he would still have been dumped. He is saying things that can hurt people. Someday he will be called on the carpet for it.

I believe he is the one who came down on women using antidepressants for post-partum depression, People listening to him, could result in the deaths of children. He is not a doctor. He should keep his mouth shut.

The thing I thought he did wrong was to make
comments about other Stars. That's a, NO NO.
That's 1.
For 2,
Men don't know how a woman feels inside, or about
carrying a baby, and how it feels while having it, and
her feelings afterward.
They should just make movies, and talk about cars.
LOL

I won't deny that he was pretty good in Interview with a Vampire.....but regardless of whatever religion he picks, if he still acts this crazy and overly (and presentationally) enthused/zealous, his PR (public relations) is seriously going to take a dive. Regardless of religion and sexuality, he needs to calm down, relax, and be honest with america before he gets a nervous breakdown.

PS He probably would be getting it DOUBLE if he was a Christian right now.

If Tom Cruise was a real Christian he would not have acted in several of the movies he stared in sich as "Eyes Wide Shut."

If he called himself a Christian but still acted like a screwball and was a member of a cult, then yes he still would've been dumped. Scientology isn't just "a different opinion" they are a very sketchy and very criminal organization. They aren't just harmless weirdos, unfortunately.

ok, first I think you meant to type "dumped ON" as in all the negative press and jokes. yes, whenever someone acts bizarre or has something odd happen to them, like dick cheney shooting his buddy hunting, they will be dumped on.
and the nature of celebrity is to put people up on the pedastal so us sheep can laugh at them when they show themselves to be human and tumble down.
realize and embrace this, but don't accept it, and you'll find a good place to be.

i think its because he is so much older then Katie, and i think people would still pick at him, some of this possibly is as you said his religion and alot of people don't know about it like they do others, and also the media doesn't help..its really not our business whats going on in their lives..we would like to think we would be happy with someone like that but the truth is who he is really we don't know, we fall in love with the people he plays, the honor behind the characters, we don't know that he would really follow and do such all tho i have read a few things about him stopping and seeing about people, or helping someone, and alot of stars seem to not do that
