Bud! you risked it and here am I telling you go immediately to the Dr. Sometimes hernias can be pushed back in. If it can't it can become encapsulated and pinch off you testicle or bowel and then you will get to have the testicle or bowel cut off and you can poop in a bag, which is a lot more fun then playing football.

are you sure that the lump is on your thigh and not in your scrotum or inguinal/groin area? the most common hernia in males and females is what we call indirect inguinal hernia (more often on the right side). it is when your abdominal organs (esp the intestines) bulge downward because of a lax abdominal wall support.

now, the only solution to a hernia is surgery. the basic principle in hernia surgery is that the surgeon puts a mesh to streghten the inguinal canal. the surgery can be done on an outpatient basis and would take only a little more than an hour. delaying surgery especially when you are experiencing symptoms of incarceration (trapped hernia), is not wise. it could result in complications such as necrosis of the trapped contents of the hernia and this would result in a much bigger surgery.

bearing the pain and risking permanent injury (which includes risking your future career) is not the way to go.

consult a urologist and ask what your best options are.

I know this sucks but if it is a hernia and in your groin you want to get it fixed now if you don't it can spead into you testicals and that pain you do not want to have. But it could be a pulled or torn muscle. My husband had pain there and thought it was a hernia and the pain was so bad he could not walk, my husband is a USMC and he was crying terribly but it turned out to be a pulled muscle. Get your self check and soon if it is a muscle it will heal fast but you don't want to mess with a hernia any where near your groin

Man, no high school football is worth risking your life or a crippling physical issue for the rest of your life.

This is extremely serious and you should seek medical help ASAP.
