Dimitar Berbatov (Bulgarian: Димитър Бербатов) (born 30 January 1981), is a Bulgarian international and Tottenham Hotspur football player. His career began in Blagoevgrad with the team of Pirin. He played in the Bulgarian A PFG for CSKA Sofia between 1998 and January 2001, winning the national cup in 1999. Then he moved to Bayer Leverkusen, with whom he played in the final of the Champions League in 2002. During the same year Leverkusen came second in the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.
Berbatov's first game for Bulgaria came when he was just 18 years old against Greece. By November 2005 he had earned 47 caps and scored 32 times. In the qualification campaign for Euro 2004 he scored 5 times in 6 games and thus secured his place as one of the most successful attackers in the history of Bulgaria. Before the final tournament, the BBC said about him that "when short of confidence he can appear a little clumsy and one-paced ..." , but the player has arguably further developed his skills since then.
In May 2006, Berbatov joined English Premiership team Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of €16m [2] (£ 10.9 million). [3] This made him the Bulgarian player with the highest transfer price in history at 31 million leva, higher than Valeri Bojinov (€13m) and Martin Petrov (€12m). Due to work permit regulations the transfer was completed on 1 July 2006.
On Tuesday 22nd August 2006, Berbatov scored his first Tottenham Hotspur goal in the Premiership game against Sheffield United at White Hart Lane.Berbatov also has 10 goals in 27 games in the Champions League And he scored 2 goals in 2 minutes on his domestic debut for Tottenham against Birmingham in a pre-season friendly match.
Berbatov lists his hobbies as drawing and basketball.
Valeri Bojinov (Bulgarian: Валери Божинов) (born February 15, 1986) is a Bulgarian football striker who plays for Juventus in Italy.
Career
Born in the Bulgarian town of Gorna Oryahovitsa, Bojinov moved to Malta from Bulgaria as a child with his mother, a former national team volleyball player. Valeri Bojinov was discovered at the age of 13 by U.S. Lecce sports director Pantaleo Corvino, while playing for Pietà Hotspurs, and signed for just 30,000,000 ITL (around 15,000 €). A promising youngster, Bojinov debuted in Italian Serie A on January 22, 2002, at the age of 15 years and 11 months, becoming the youngest foreign player to make an appearance in the top level of Italian football. He then played for Bulgaria at Euro 2004.
Next to the European Championship, Bojinov actually showed his full potential for US Lecce under the guidance of coach Zdeněk Zeman; he then left Lecce for Fiorentina in January 2005, in a transfer worth approximately €13 million. Curiously, the Fiorentina team manager who actually attended and operated the bid was Pantaleo Corvino, the same one who discovered Bojinov and brought him to Italy.
Today, Valeri Bojinov is considered to be one of the highest-regarded young strikers in the world.
In January 2006 Bojinov was rumoured to join Italian giants Inter Milan on a 6 month loan, with Internazionale goalkeeper Francesco Toldo rumoured to be going in the opposite direction. However, he remained in Florence and was re-introduced into Fiorentina's squad after a period of exclusion.
In July 2006 he moved to Italian power Juventus in a deal which includes Adrian Mutu's transfer to Fiorentina.
