you just stare at the thing or object you want to stick on your memory. try to identify specific or easily recognizable and easy to remember parts of your object. i guess my answer is too simple, but this is how i do it.

Maybe you could give yourself little mind exercises such as trying to memorize something by making up a mnemonic device. (For example, like the PEMDAS thing you learn in math class and the Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species thing in science class...) Work your way up to memorizing small poems. Then maybe try looking at a picture in a magazine for a few minutes and afterwards write down every single detail you can remember seeing, down to the colors you saw to the expressions on people's faces and the smallest minute thing you spotted. Then check to see how accurate you were.
Hope that helps. =)

Sniff Chocolate!! In a study, subjects who memorized words in a room scented with chocolate recalled 21% more than those who memorized them in a scentless room. Scientists think the smell stimulates the brain's limbic system, which is responsble for memory.

Take a look at a picture, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and visualize the picture in your mind. You may not get every detail, but you should be able to get a picture. With practice, you will be able to locate the part of your mind that stores them with your eyes open.

Please refer to the following book:
(1990). Lorayn, Harry. Super memory, super student; How to raise your grades in 30 days. ISBN: 0-316-53268-1.
The first rule re: memory : "In order for you to remember any new thing, it must be associated with something you already know or remember."
I personally have referred to this book fquite often during my under-graduate and graduate level studies.
