i think bands like Sum 41, MxPx, and New Found Glory rock! however, too much emo crap and imitation of good bands has led to the dissoulution of the genre. what if there was a band that had the stage antics and humor of the beastie boys, the sarcastic subject matter like Sum 41, and the sheer gumption of Green day. would they have a chance of making it? i mean, seriously. if you insult, well, just don't please. would they have a fighting chance, or is the genre dead?

I don't think the genre is dead - I just don't think there are enough media outlets for it tho. All the so-called "hip" radio stations seem to play rap and hip hop, the alternative ones play "classic" rock or oldies (both of which I should be listening to but hate the crap).

I think you should hang in there or maybe find some other guys that at least play a little. I love your attitude! I especially love bands like Sum 41 and Blink because of their sarcasm, too (and the catchy music of course). I'm guessing you already have the gumption of Green Day. Now get some good management!

All styles go around in circles. For example: Post punk was popular back in the 80's, and it made a comeback a few years ago with bands like The Killers, The Bravery etc.

The same thing can be said for pop-punk. It'll become popular once again, but probably not for quite a while, because these things take time.

Dont go for a gimmick dude. No one will take you seriously. Just learn to play, have an awesome time and heaps of fun, and you'll be great. No gimmicks.

Besides, there are heaps of poppy punk sounding groups out there still, you just need to look for them.

the thing about punk is that is has nothing to do with pop/ have you ever listened to hagfish or nofx there are more punk bands that go back to early 70's and whats make them so great is that they were original they didnt try to copy someones music, and if you ever read any articles most punk is formed from reggae and ska and there are ska bands too which is even faster than punk i think if someone had a original punk band and didnt try to copy green day or nofx or any other punk band ever and they had good lyrics then it could make a comeback, so if you are trying for a punk band please be original and yes you would have a fighting chance i know a lot of people that listen to punk old school punk some i havent heard of and when i do listen it is awesome. i hope you make it and good luck

A-ha in no way extremely went away. properly, they right now had a 7 year ruin yet they were doing solo stuff. I observed A-ha in live performance very last year in Liverpool and purely this previous week they have performed some stay shows in Norway with yet another one arising this week. purely gutted i am going to't attend :( there is an authentic website for them and that i'm a member of a few unofficial a-ha forums.

Punk was and is an underground, independent music genre. Anything that goes popular kind of burns itself out but especially music that is away from its roots. You should check out punk or hardcore music if you like the rockier songs or indie if you like more melody. There is nothing like finding a new favorite band or a new favorite song.

Check the links at the bottom of the page or try itunes (like netflix they'll help you find similar artists)

They have a chance as long as they don't wear eyeliner and skinny pants. I asked myself the same question when I saw the recent warped tour lineup. I love punk but emo crap has attatched itself to the genre like an big gay crybaby parasite.
