downtown SJ? not many choices that are any better than suburban-mall type restaurants.

BUT
Fahrenheit is a great multi-asian restaurant.
Peking House is great simple cantonese.

I really do not like Downtown SJ anymore....Santana Row is a much better atmosphere and it has real good restaurants. There is a huge variety.

Eulipia and 71 St. Peter are always reliable choices. Eulipia's great if you're also going to the theater and 71 St. Peter's tasting menu is a great deal.

Maggiano's is great italian food, and Blowfish is awesome sushi with a very modern, fun atmosphere. Both are in Santana Row...

if youre willing to leave downtown sj a little bit, my fav places are all in or around santana row--blowfish sushi, amber indian, lots of other places up and down the row
