in im and whisper chats--is it really private or can other people see what u r saying?

It simply depends on what service you are using. There are IM services which route their messages through their servers,in which case you're conversations with the other may be stored. Atleast that's what yahoo, Msn does i guess. neone correct me if i'm wrong about this. If its pure p2p chat then u can be sure that it is private.
