Bettas can get tumors but they are very uncommon. There are two common causes for that marble look you discribe. First is overfeeding. Bettas tend to bloat when overfed so it's important to keep an eye on their portion sizes. Try http://www.nippyfish.net/constipation.html for more detailed info. The other common cause is Dropsy. This is a symptom believed to be caused by organ failure. Fluid builds up in the bettas abdomen often causing severe bloating or pineconing. (scales sticking out) This, sadly, is usually fatal. Here's more on Dropsy. http://www.nippyfish.net/dropsy.html

Bettas will display their fins in all of their color to a mirror since they do not recognize their reflections and think it is another male infringing on their territory. The stretching of the fins and opening of the gills to display the membrane enables the male to look twice his resting size and is called flaring, or displaying.

Since they are aggesive it may have also eating another small fish but a tumore is out of the question. SImple hold it in you hand an squeez gently to determine if is food or a marble.
