I have been promoted to manager at the resort where I work. Now I am overseeing all departments and their managers. Only one Dept is overseen by a woman with whom I've worked with really well. Whereas the other department are supervised by cowboys. What is the best way to deligate my priorities to these men?

You've been promoted to manage a resort, but you don't understand how to delegate or even how to spell delegate? I would say your first priority is building connections to these other department heads. See if there are any ways to bridge the communication gaps between you. Encourage them to trust you. If they come to understand how capable you are, it will be very easy to delegate tasks to them. If you know them well, you will also have a good understanding of where their strengths lie, and this will help you to delegate tasks to them. The worst thing you could do is play up your one positive relationship, it builds a mentality of us versus them. Try to change your perception of these men. Ideally, they have been put in their positions for a reason, and you may need to adjust your own views to manage this team. You seem to have a very negative opinion of these other managers. Is it them or is it you? They will sense if you are hesitant in relaying assignments, and they will also know it if you play tough to boss them around.

1. Try to understand your cowboys' thinking.
2. Arrange a big meeting with all that your supervisors, be fully prepared for that meeting.
3. Explain what is the goal of your company and what is the steps to reach such goal.
4. Explain your priorities in reaching such goal, let them share their opinions.
5. Make sure that all attendance understand what you are talking about.
6. Explain the rewards and punishments in doing your goals and priorities. There should be no excuse or any body can be fired if necessary!
7. Prepare the minutes proper and completely, and, if possible, let it be signed by all the attendance to acknowledge the minutes.

Good luck.
