Although we can say that money is the means so we can get what we need, why do humans still seek for it even though he has other ways of getting his needs? Or, is it just that, we humans cannot live anymore without money? Or, there are really no other means of getting what we humans really need?

Alright... Some of you would really say that Money is for Power. So, does that mean, other than FOOD, POWER is also a manly need? The logic to my question is that, to get power, or other needs (if that is), do we really require money? Can we not get power without money?

Alright.. Some of you would say that with money we can get power. So does that mean that POWER is also a need the same way we needed FOOD? The logic actually to my question is that, is money only the way to get POWER, or other needs (if that is)? Are there no other ways to get power other than through money?

Money buys things that we need. If things were free money would be pointless. Money is the key to life in the world we live in today, although many may disagree with me, but without money where would we be? We don't go to school to become doctors and lawyers just because its required, but simply for the fact that it buys food on the table.

Forgiving that you're definitely in the wrong category, I have a Q for you.
Beyond the spiritual, and sometimes physical, what "THINGS" in todays world, are available for gratis? Certainly being kind or charitable usually only "costs" time.
We don't strictly live in a barter society, and even if we did there is greed, which degrades any effort for the common man to gain or over take the greedy.
NEEDS,,,by the way,,, are free, for the most part, with the exception of food. AIR is a need,,,it's pretty much free,,,at least the last time I inhaled. Water, can be free, or a bargain at least. That's it for NEEDS. Anything else,,, Oh maybe shelter,,, are WANTS, DESIRES,,,not needs.
Some of us do very well living modestly. Would I like to hit a lottery once? I guess so. Would it make me a different person? I can't state so truly.

Money is the most convenient way to exchange what we make and do for what we need or want. Money is just the in-between stage of value conversion. The "other ways" are different for each need, so rather than be bad at all of those ways, we specialize in one thing we do well, get paid for it, and then pay others for what they can do better than we could.
Domination (power) is a strong want, though maybe not a need. In a wolf pack the dominant alphas live longer and are generally healthier than the lower rank betas. Yes, you can get this want without money, just like the other wants or needs, if you specialize in it. And then you can trade for your other needs.

The more money one has the more power one has.
This is why money is so important to a lot of people who surely don't need any more money at all.
If those people who have more then any more would ever need in several life times would put it to good use then think how much good it could really be if those people would help out the far less fortunate.
Think less power and control and more kindness and compassion to others just to name a few things that could really be put to use.

Yes, money is not everything but money is a part of everything in your life. If you have more wants and needs then money plays a bigger role in your life. If you are a simple person and wish to lead a simple life, then money shall not have much significance to you. The bottom line is you CAN LIVE without it but you CANNOT SURVIVE without any need for money (unless of course you choose to live in some deep jungle away from all civilisation!). It is also not true that money is the root cause of all evil. It is how money is spent on doing the evil things that has brought problems and misery to the human society.

A couple of nights ago on some news program (maybe Nightline) there was piece about a young girl of about 14 who lives in Africa and struggles to feed her younger siblings. All the adults in her family died of AIDS (if I heard correctly), and this young girl and her siblings go hunt for worms in trees. The girl fries them in a worn-looking fry pan over a fire outside of their little home/hut (whatever it could be called). The younger children go to a sparse-looking school that pretty much looks like a room with tables and a chalk board. The people in this village and others like it don't have money to have good food, good houses, good schools, good medical care, etc. etc. etc.
In our culture we have ways to earn money and then use it to get what we need and even have just the small luxury of often getting a little more than "just what we need". That is why people still seek money.
Could we get rid of our whole way of life and start living like the girl in Africa? Probably. People did that when settlers first came to this country (try to come up with what is needed without money). Our system, however, provides for a quality of life that isn't just better for us on a day-to-day basis but that can produce well-educated people who may be able to make a difference for the people like that young girl in Africa.
That's why people like the "money approach" to living, educating, and attempting to solve problems.

money is a easy way of getting the things they need. Sometimes the other options aren't so easy for others. Money can even buy girls attention. And thats something alot of guys crave and will do anything, even use money as a source to get girls attention. If I was rich, i'd use money to get girls attention. Thats the main reason I wanna be rich. The other reason is so I never have to worry about working. Its all about being secure in my life. Nothing else. Otherwise its not too big of a deal to me.

In our society money is a means to an end. Money itself has no intrinsic value. What you do with it does. That's where your conscience, ethics and personal values come in. Hopefully wealth can be used more often for the common good than not.
Then, there are more basic, indigenous societies where money has next to no value because they can meet their admittedly more basic needs without it through barter and direct activities such as hunting, fishing, livestock management and agriculture.
Since it is impossible for modern society to retreat to such practices, money assumes it's importance. Again, let's hope it can be used for the common good more often than greedy self interests. Look at the example that Bill Gates has set.

Food. Shelter. Clothing. People either make those things or buy them. If you cannot farm, you must give a farmer something in exchange for food. If you have nothing he wants, you must find someone with something he wants and who wants something you have. Otherwise, you starve.
You can get what you need. After all, who is to say that one person does not have the right to live? However, we have also taken security in as a need. This means that we must pay someone else to protect us, thus governments.
If you can take your own land, cultivate it, provide shelter for yourself, clothe yourself from it, and protect it from invaders, you will not need money.

Because we don't know any better. Anything we think is the "be all- to end all" of all our problems, hopes & dreams, - fails to take into account that none of us ever stay satisfied for very long- & that there's ALWAYS something ELSE we're going to be longing after- before we know it. We see money as the quick "fix" to getting everything we want & need...- but it isn't really. It's just a poor substitute for the thing we're REALLY looking for; Peace of Mind.
