Why is it that only african americans hold a grudge against being slaves to america when the first slaves were from France? I am from France and I dont. Cajun happens to be French. Why is it that the french didnt make a racist deal over hurrican katrina and the african americans acted like they were being discriminated against... I am cajun.. FRENCH. i just want to know why!

My family wasnt saved durring Hurrican Katrina.. It had nothing to do with the color of their skin.

Well you are right. The word slave is derived from Slav and of course they made up most of the Eastern European Nations. Most Europeans were enslaved at one time or another either by invaders or their Royal rulers. consider the desperate circumstances of the Russian Peasants which resulted in the Russian Revolution. Slavery in Africa was not only practiced by Whites it was a form of trade for Black Africans as well which is how the slave trade began.

The slavery of Africans was the most visible slavery before its abolition. And you are right the Cajuns were also enslaved. It seems that race more than anything has created the resentment. African Americans hate White people because they, irrationally, blame all whites for their ancestors enslavement. Yet they forget the thousands who of Whites who died in the civil war to make them free. The resentment which whites feel against African Americans can be explained, in part, by the perception that African Americans are racist in their attitude, that African Americans are unfair to whites alive today and that they are given unfair advantages in the form of affirmative action. Personally I support Affirmative action, not on race, but to alleviate poverty.

Every race has suffered from slavery and catastrophe, perhaps the most being Native Americans. The constant whining by African Americans who ignore any and everything which may be done for them will create resentment and not further the cause of social justice. None of what I have said in any way attempts to justify the abject poverty and misery which far too many African Americans live in or the genuine racism which many of them face.

I'm not going to debate your outrage over Hurricane Katrina - what happended was heartbreaking, and the sluggish reaction of the government was unforgiveable. We tend to lose sight that this (governmnent response - or lack thereof) was an issue of poverty more than it was a race. And unfortunately that aspect wasn't explored. But in in the south - especially in the areas affected (remember, Mississippi and Alabama were ravaged as well) the face of poverty is predominately black whether we like it or not.

Now as for your claim of grudges about slavery in America. This isn't a debate about who were the first slaves (and who's quicker to get over it), and furthermore you cannot even compare - we're dealing with different times, different place, and different attitudes. Yes, slavery existed prior to the western world - but it did not become the ruthless and merciless Institution that we know it today until it came across the atlantic to the Americas.

I find it interesting that you can say "I am Cajun, I am French". I can't really do the same.

I'm going to send you an attachment - it the Willie Lynch Speech. It's a long read, but it's important. It's pretty much a blueprint of the institution - and how it has manifested to the mentalities and "grudges" if you will, and gives some insight into why it's not so easy to get over it.
Different times, different places, different attitudes.

I don't know what you are talking about, but I don't recall the nation being built on the backs of White French people. Are you by any chance related to Chirac? He's a bit confused too!

They don't hold a grudge they just use that as an excuse to be lazy and uneducated today. I guess the answer you are looking for is because it's easier than getting a job and doing something to help yourself.
