There is certainly a reason why this saying is so popular. People use this excuse all the time for their misdeeds.

i don't agree with this statement. if someone has good intentions but the plan fell through, i doubt very much if they are on the road to hell. i'd think bad intentions would be the set path to hell.

No. It does not make sense. The very first word of the quote is the one I take issue with: it suggests there is a single road to hell. It is much more philosophically defensible to contend that the road to heaven is singular.

Yes. I think that the statement refers to good UNFULFILLED intentions where someone says that they are going to do something that is good or needed, but then the person with the good intentions does absolutely nothing at all.

Actually not so much paved, as lined with markers ... like those mile markers or road-side advertising you see along the highway.

Any statement can be applicable to most of life.

I'd add when those intentions are solely for personal glory. Then I'd wholeheartedly agree.

not fully. i believe MOST people have good intentions to start with, but along the way, something has to go wrong and intentions turn.
