I dont know but I fall asleep faster when I sleep on the floor. I guess its because its cooler and there aint alot of motion like there is in beds.

I would say that, yes, it is better to sleep with your back perfectly straight (cultures have been doing this for centuries).
But in modern times, mattresses are far more healthy for your bodily alignment so that the difference between sleeping on a hard surface and sleeping on a new mattress is very slight.
Firmer mattresses with just the right amount of give are usually more expensive and sought after, but it really depends upon your own preference.
