When this system "welfare & medicaid" were 1 set up, if was meant for a temporary fix to help people who had lost their jobs, homes, etc due to things beyond their control. Such as during the "Great Depression", floods, storm raviged areas, ,death to mate, and other issures. But then this nation has allowed it get out of hand with healthy people of all race decided it was easier to be on welfare, and medicaid free as long as the government would give it to them. We allow women to have babies, one right after another, so they can continue to draw welfare, and so on. It is so abused by so many that when the true people who can't work, and are absolutely destroyed when a spouse dies, or they lose their jobs, that now its hard to get assistance. Its abused and should be tightened and revamped., now do you see why illegals want to come & live in the promise lands. We have useless people drawing it so easy, and they want a piece of the pie. How can the government be so stupid, and not do something about it. Hell we have kids living on the streets, or out of their cars with their parents, because they cannot get help. Now go figure that out, huh??? Thats what I think of welfare, medicaid, and other government programs, like food stamps, hell some people sell their cards(like debit cards) to anyone to have dope money, booze, or gas money, or to gamble. It is a costly thing that needs to be revised comletely. Sorry, to bore you, its just a touchy issue with me, when i see someone in the grocery line buying T-bone steaks with their food stamps, and I have to buy the cheapest hamburger meat or bologna to survive.

I live near a whole house of people who scam the system. There is the mother, who is 55 yrs old, who's never worked and the father with some sort of medical problem, the daughter with her son on welfare, her husband is disabled but manages to play baseball on a team and hits 350 yards, runs around the bases and slides. That's not counting the mothers brother, who resides in the basement, her deaf son, who works under the table and the other son in his 30's hanging around with teens. So out of all these people 2 work on the books and the others are using the system. These people have been doing this for decades. They drive late model cars, it makes me sick. But how can you prove it?

This was a while ago so I don't know if it is still relevant. But back in the day a friend of mine [ a single mother] had a son who required daily meds. and frequent trips to the ER .Very costly. Any job she could get either had no insurance or would not cover her son. In order to qualify for the state medical coverage she had to be eligible for food stamps [not work] so her choice was work and not have medical treatment for her son or stay on welfare and get her son the help he needed. The case workers in her area knew of her problem and were tolerant but there was no legal solution. What should she have done?

I think it can be beneficial for people who really need it, but I think it is a severely abused system. My sister was on welfare for 20 years, and it blew my mind the effort she would go through (because government aid has a lot of red tape, and hoops to jump through) yet it was too hard to just go out and work. Plus, I don't have the asnwer for this, but the food stamp system is FUBAR..I know lots of people (I know poor aquaintence choices huh? ) that trade their food stamps for cash so they can get booze and pot..

I think it should be available for people who really need assistance... temporarily. The government that provides the cash benefits should also ensure there are programs in place to provide daycare, education, job training, etc. so people don't get stuck in the "system."

Eventually there will be a lower class comprised of most of the middle class as the benefits of not working will equal out to the benefits of working cause there wont be enough jobs. It is either that or deport everyone without a job......to where?
