I think the lesson is to experience unconditional love ourselves. Sure... it's about helping at least a little to diminish the pain of others but it's also about you evolving from a "penny-pinching, me-me-me" mentality into a state of greater openness and the peace that this will give you.
It really doesn't matter whether it's an animal or a person. Many times compassion towards animals is the first step for a person. later on they move up to ladder and begin to feel compassion for other human beings. The thing that seems a little hypocritical is when you find animal lovers who bash humans and make them suffer. But who am I to judge them.
Many people care, but most of them don't go around boasting about it. That's why you didn't get many positive responses. Only the cynics who need to feel superior at any cost (or who are dying for 2 points) have the impulse to answer.

Anyone that would care more for an animal over a fellow human is crazy. Animals are fine to care about, but people should come first.

Yes, I exactly feel the same way. Not bcs I see animals inferior to human beings, on the contrary, I am angry bcs some ppl behave like they see humans inferior to animals. I also am amazed how some ppl spend sooooo much money for their pets while they do not spend a pennie to help hungry children. That's an unacceptable perspective for me.

Actually, I'm kind of what you hate then. In a movie if a person is shot off a horse and the horse falls, I tend to go.."ahhh, poor horsey!" It really upsets me when people are cruel to animals. The animals have no idea what's going on, and it is confusing to them, and hard to defend themselves against a human....usually. Same with babies and children, like you said. They can't defend themselves, and they don't know what's going on....they're scared. So I tend to show more sympathy for young people and animals......yeah animals. See?!

To be honest, I've never met someone who prefers animals to children so I can't really say anything. But that does sound quite harsh if someone cares more for animals than a fellow human being.

Yeah it does bother me that some people love animals more than humans, but everyone's different. I heard Jane Goodall like her gorillas more than people, but I can't say I blame her. I think that people that treat those yappy little dogs and take them everywhere are really annoying. Some people's dogs eat better than some people do. The pet pampering I could do without.

I think it all depends... I mean if one of my cats which is like one of my children (since I don't have kids) was killed, I'd be pretty distraught as opposed to a human dying. I find it particularly hard to really care much about people that I do not know dying (whether children or adults...) because I am not attatched to them emotionally. If someone I know or family dies, then yea, I'd me much more upset ahn if one of my cats dies... but... well... yea... I just lost my train of thought...

I don't know, man. Babies and young children are in the same category as animals.
But older humans!?!? I've never been betrayed or effed over by an animal.
I chosse animals and my family, unfortunately I dont trust the rest of you all.

Absolutely. When there are too many dying around of hunger and all that a person is concerned of is buying the best food for his dog or cat, or when animal rights activists slam people who feed on animals because they have nothing to eat at all, I call them HYPOCRITES!
