I just read an article that said that it should not be there, but I think it's the perfect place because they are both noisy.

I've never owned a house, with a laundry area that wasn't adjacent to a garage. I have no clue where you read the article so I can't judge the author,,, BUT, I suggest that the laundry "room" serves multiple purposes, as an entry from a garage that helps with tracking dirt into the home, it usually has enough space for a sink, and as many cabinets as can be installed for additional storage, causing it to be a second towel/linen/cleaning supplies storage room.

You don't say what alternatives might have been offered, but I am curious. It cannot have anything to do with plumbing, as the drain lines would be taken into account in construction. It may also be that a bathroom is adjacent? OR an indoor hose bib in the garage.

Noise is less a factor for me, and a garage is only noisy if a loud car pulls in or goes out, or the elect door opener is loud, or the insulation is poor, or you have Teens who use the garage for their band practice time. A laundry room is only "noisy" when one is actually DOING laundry, and even then all one has to do is close the door.

BTW,,, a laundry room is also a great place for the litter box if you have a cat.

I had a house with the laundry room next to the garage and I didn't have the first problem. I think this is one of those cases that "they" said so. Who are "they" and why do you care what "they" say? Put your laundry room where you want it. Although, I've also had one next to the bedrooms, and that was alot more handy than having to take it all through the house! Unless you do it all night, near where the dirty clothes originate is much easier on the person doing the laundry!
