Of the most popular systems, Nintendo has the most kid-friendly games.

The Nintendo DS offers Brain Age and The Big Brain Academy. They are somewhat educational I guess. They won't teach them any new information(besides mathematics) but they are supposed to "strengthen" your brain. Nintendo's website has a special genre called "Edutainment" but if you were to click on it you would find there is currently nothing there.

Besides that, any role-playing game should strengthen your child's reading skills as they'll be encouraged to learn new words that may be presented in the story.

Buuut...all I know about are the main consoles. The Leapster L-Max I had never heard of until now.

My 6 yr old has a V Tech V Smile. It teaches just about everthing you can ask for in a game system. It is usually found in the same isle as the leapster. The games are grouped by age and run about 20 dollars each.
