If their full names were Det. Sgt. Sam Stone and Desk Sgt. Dan Briggs then the show might be Felony Squad.

There was a Mr. Briggs in "Mission Impossible." He had the lead in before Peter Graves as Mr. Phelps. I don't remember a Stone in that one, but there was a Stone in "The Streets of San Francisco." Karl Malden portrayed him. I don't thing Michael Douglas' character was named Briggs, though. Let us know.
