I would say both, however if I had to choose, it'd be the Beatles. The Beatles are perhaps the most influential band of our time, by that I mean the 20th Century. Stemming of from the greatness of Elvis and Chuck Berry, The Beatles provided a sound of early 1950's Rock, and ended up redefining Rock and Pop for generations to come. What those four young people did isn't overrated, if you really do look at it the Song writing and music of today wouldn't be so interesting, without the influence of the Lennon and McCartney partnership, the experimental sounds of George Harrison, and the change in the way drums were used by Richard Starkey (Ringo Starr). I can go on and on and list how many covers and awards the beatles have gotten but that all means nothing without the music, so if you had to choose either the Beatles or the Stones, give the beatles a complete listen and perhaps you'll feel the magic.

The Beatles. I actually have a chart from a class I took showing how in the late 1960s The Stones copied everything The Beatles did.
