I have checked with some DSL companies and they all say the same thing; to wait and see if I can get it in my area...eventually. I have only seen one other option and it was some sort of expensive broadband that was about $55. a month. We cannot have cable out here so for TV, satellite (We have Direct TV.) is all we can get. I've had to deal with primitive dial-up for years, but is there anything I can do about this?

Well, if $55 is too much, then I think you're outta luck for the time being. I know that verizon offers a dsl wireless, but it's like $100 and that's not better. I can't imagine how annoying it would be to have dial-up again now. I have cable and it's great. It's way more than $55 here, though, if that's any comfort.

That's a sad story I feel sorry for you. I hope things get better soon. I don't think there is anything you can do. I would go with the $55 a month as long as it was faster then dial-up. Tear...... I feel sad now after hearing this news.

I live in a rural community and before dsl, there were ads for satellite based connections. I think it's a bit cheaper than what you've said. Google it and see what it says.

Satellite is pretty much it. I know in Utah in some of the rural areas they offer a sort of Wireless Signal that you buy a receiver for and then pay them for the access..... I think in most cases it is more expensive though....

It would have been nice to know what area you refer to! All you will get for help is look for a dsl package in your area! If you have a phone line this is your only option for higher speeds. vSee if your phone company carries dsl!
