this is something i would seek medical attention for..get a second doctor's opinion-it sounds like her current doctor wasn't very concerned about her welfare....

it's hard to recommend an appropriate treatment w/out knowing her medical history, current diet, and exactly what medications she is on....

dehydration in the elderly is extremely dangerous and diarrhea and vomiting are the two main causes....

bowel obstructions are also very common amongst the elderly..
symptoms of this are:
-severe abdominal cramping
-nausea/ vomiting (in severe cases the person will vomit stool)
-inability to have a bowel movement or pass gas
-bloating

you can try using the B.R.A.T diet

B-bananas
R-rice
A-applesauce
T-toast

these will help with the diarrhea. i would not treat her with any medication until seen by another doctor.

make sure she drinks plenty of fluid and turn her onto her side every 2 hours to help prevent bedsores since she is bedridden. check her often for diarrhea-it's very acidic and can cause bedsores easily....

make an appointment to see a doctor within 24 hours and be persistant-make sure all of your questions are answered and the problem is solved..if you are not satisfied with the care you are recieving from the doctor-take her to an urgent care of the hospital..do whatever it takes to make sure you help get your grandma better...people in healthcare are supposed to make sure they get to the root of your problem and make her better

good luck and take care

does she have any visiting nurses? if so they should tell all of this to her Dr. for treatment. Otherwise an adult who cares for her should do so. Diarrhea can be dangerous for the elderly. It also could indicate a bowel infection, or even impaction again.[ The liquid comes out around the hard stool.]

Did you ask him any questions?
Don't give her anything unless the doc. approves it...call his office and get answers to your questions!
Send her to the hospital if you can't get any help from the doctor.
