The Peace Corps is an alternative to military service that originated in the 1960's. It is a way for people with talents and skills to help develop underdeveloped countries around the world. It is a good way to gain experience after leaving high school or college and it is way to make a positive mark on the lives of people who will truly appreciate your contributions.

It is spelled "Corps" and pronounced "Core". No worries--most of us have been corrected in class by a teacher for pronouncing it "corpse", the peaceful dead!

Peace Corp is an independent overseas volunteer program of the U.S. government.
To qualify for service in the Peace Corps, a person must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old (no upper age limit).

The chief goals of the corps are (1) to help the poor obtain everyday needs, (2) to promote world peace, and
(3) to increase understanding between Americans and the people of other nations.
