well for one being that this is in the teen section you shouldnt even be thinking about getting an abortion. But i will answer your question based on what i have read about it. The doctor gives you a local to numb your vaginal area. then takes tapered rods to dialate the cervix and then uses a suction almost like what the dentist uses and then scrapes your uterus out to make sure that the fetus and placenta is gone. There is another type of abortion using methodriate (sp) but this is a shot that is given in the arm that is used to slow down the growth of the fetus and then you are given a certain amount of pills to take home with you to insert in your private area and then you start cramping and bleeding until you pass the baby. so if this sounds painful to you then i would imagine it is. I personally dont know but i hope that helped you.

It depends on how far along a woman is in her pregnancy.
Before ten weeks of pregnancy, abortions are usually performed in outpatient clinics, and in some doctors offices. This is done through vacuum curettage under local anesthetic. Your cervix will be frozen and a small narrow tube is inserted through the cervix, and the products of conception are sucked out through vacuum. You will be fully awake throughout the procedure. You will have some bleeding, like a period, and you will have some mild cramping for 12 to 24 hours.
At 10 to 12 weeks, some clinics perform dilatation and evacuation, whereby laminaria (a type of seaweed) are inserted into your cervix at increasing thicknesses, to dilate the cervix. When the cervix is fully dilated, a vacuum curette is inserted, and the fetus, placenta and sac are removed by vacuum. The uterus is sometimes scraped immediately following. Again, you will be awake throughout the procedure, and it is done under local anesthetic.
In some clinics, and hospitals, abortions are performed up to 16 weeks. In this case, you will be admitted to hospital, and a prostaglandin gel will be applied to your cervix to ripen the cervix. After that, an IV will be started, and medication will be given through the IV to induce labor. Some doctors do a saline implant, meaning that some of the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby is removed, and replaced by saline solution (salt water) to burn and kill the baby. Once the IV kicks in, labor will start and you will deliver the baby vaginally, just the same as you would if you had gone through the pregnancy, but the baby will be dead. This will be followed by delivery of the placenta. You will be awake throughout all stages of the procedure, and no anesthetic is given. You will have bleeding like a period for a week or two and will have some cramping for 2 to 3 days.
I know this, because I am a nurse and once worked in an abortion clinic.

From those who I know as adults and teens who obtained an abortion, no it doesn't hurt. They are aware, awake and over with in 30 mins.
Some experienced cramping (think of period cramps) and irregular period for a bit. However, goes all back to normal with in 2 months for most female's. (when doing the surgical procedure). If doing the oral procedure which is the first timester, they have a little cramping but most don't.
I never had an abortion so, I can not tell you personally. I am just passing a long information from mother's and female's who have had abortion's on other boards (other sites) and personally know people who have.

I would think long and hard before you use that as an option. There are always people out there looking to adopt. If you get an abortion . You might regret it the rest of you life. I personally think it is so wrong. The only time it would be considered is if you or your baby's life is in parity. Do your parents know what you are planning to do? If they know they might be able to help you decide which would be the best option to take. I doubt that they would want you to get an abotion. Hope all works out for the best.

No it doesn't hurt for you are knocked out during the procedure. You won't feel like running a lap afterwards for your body wil be going thru a lot of changes
I hope you have thought about other alternatives like adoption unless it is due to health reasons of getting the abortion. I would recommend that you think about what you are doing before you have the procedure done. I am not trying to convience you one way or another but do think about other alternatives before you make that decision of abortion. Good Luck!!!

I don't know if it hurts, it probably does. But I want to ask you to reconsider if you are planning on having an abortion. I have a 3 month old daughter and I am happier than I have ever been. A baby changes your life completely. It is a responsibility but more than that, it is a joy and it is so rewarding! You will understand when you have one. :)

i suspect it does. it's an invasive surgery. and basically all surgeries have painful risks associated with them. and it may sound graphic typing it out...so i suggest looking up a website that discusses the process in detail. i do know that there are other options available early in pregnancy, that are alternatives to the surgery. but either way, it's quite dramatic on the body, especially if you are farther along in the pregnancy, i would REALLY evaluate your options prior to proceeding. good luck!

Yes it hurts during and after and the baby really is the one that gets hurt. Imagine being torn in two and your skin being ripped apart by a sharp hook that pulls your brains from your body.
Outside of that... have a good life

Depends how far along you are, 2nd term ones sometimes are done over 3 days. I myself do not believe in abortion, and have known people who have had them, some say worst pain ever, others say no biggie. Do what you must but I could never live with myself
