Make sure to check your blood pressure! I had really bad headaches alot and I thought they were regular migranes. I went to the doctor and my blood pressure was sky high! Once I got that under control my headaches went away.

I suffer with migraines and they are really not nice, I too get spot in front of my eyes and have a numb sensation sometimes in my hands and other times in my face, i have also experienced the inability to string a sentence together which i found a little alarming. I cant remember whether my GP said that you shouldn't suffer with more than 2 migraines a month or whether i read it somewhere as i could be a sign of an underlying problem with having them that frequent, not that i am trying to scare you I think maybe you should visit your GP and see what he thinks. To be honest though i have only managed to get rid of one migraine and i took a strong painkiller and then had a few beers, not that i recommend that. Other than that i find that normal painkillers a dark room and sleeping it off tends to work. P.s don't buy migrelief (The pink and yellow tablets) they don't work. And try and find out what triggers your migraine and try and avoid it. I cut out chocolate and i have only had one in about the past 2 years. Sorry for waffling on! Hope I've been some help to you.

I to suffer from migraines. The only herbal treatment I have ever heard of is Chamomile Tea & St Johns Wort. I tried it. And it did not work for me. I did find that Excederine Migraine works rather well if I can take it as soon as I feel a migraine coming on. It is a good alternative to the Pain medications my doctor gives me i.e Demerol, Hydrocodone. etc.... I think before you try any thing, you should see a doctor to make sure you are having migraines. Or a different type of headache. It is always best to find out the real problem and the treatment for it. Good Luck

I'm also a migraine sufferer, and I realize how difficult it can be to stop a migraine once it starts. Migraines occur for about 1 in 4 women, and they can range from mild to extremely severe, the ones I suffer are called complex migraines, and cause symptoms similar to those seen in stroke. They are the only kind of genetic headache condition.

With that said, I know of no herbal treatments that will knock out a migraine once it starts. I have to use pharmaceuticals. Something that will help is noting your triggers, anything from yogurt to stress could trigger a migraine. For me it takes more then one trigger to cause the migraine.

Knowing your triggers will help you learn how to prevent a migraine in the first place. Another thing is omega-3-fatty acids, like those found in fish. Many migraine sufferers swear that by increasing their intake of these acids they suffer far fewer migraines then they have in the past.

Have you been clinically diagnosed? I have suffered from migraines for years. I have been using a herb called Feverfew and it is helping me. It reduces the intensity of my headaches. Try it.

Inhaling peppermint essential oil works for me when taken at the onset of a migraine. It smells great and clears up the sinuses too. Peppermint is a stimulant so this would not be recommended for bedtime.

You may want to get checked out for high insulin and/or systemic yeast syndrome, both which may cause headaches to be worse.

Once you know the cause, then the treatment is easier to choose.

there is an herbal cleanse called ParaMax that is used as an anti-parasitic, which should work well if your spuses headache is a new development after swimming in pond water.

If he has had these headaches more often than now,try to remember if there is a common element, perhaps something he ate or drank, before the onset of the headache. While redwine is high in antioxidants 1/2 a glass will trigger my migraines,
You may find there are things he will have to eliminate from his diet to avoid episodes. Meats with nitrates (hotdogs, sausages, some lunchmeats) can be triggers. My headaches are pretty lowered to once a month now and occur with my monthly cycle. My Dr recommended a few years ago trying alleve (naproxen). I take it for a week before my trigger date and then only get a slight (bearable)headache.
I get the store brand Naproxen tablets and they work best (lower price, less stress).
If stressful situations are his trigger, for example big meeting or holidays start taking the meds a few days before, they are anti-inflammatory so they help reduce the swelling of tissues which can cause the throbbing feeling. Meds are best taken when he starts feeling the headache coming on, if he has had them for awhile he should be able to recognize the signs. once the headache is raging the only thing I can stand is a dark quiet room for hours.
as with any medication if you find an herbal remedy you should check with your Dr. to ensure it will not have any adverse effects with any other meds your husband might be taking.
Strange as this sounds, if your husband has experience with herbal treatments his body will tell him what it is he needs.
dehydration is another factor make sure he is getting plenty of water.
I'll include any links I find on herbals

Make a pack with chamomile, you can get the regular herb, or the tea, steep it in hot water, drain the herb, you can get a small cloth bag, or a pantyhose, either one is OK, put the herb in it and place in refrigerator to make cool. Place it around your eye area and the bridge of your nose. Good luck.
