Maybe a small nook or small room off the kitchen other than a dining room for eating breakfast. Probably used in bigger houses where they have the extra space for rooms for everything.

In our House we have a "Dining Room" a "Kitchen" and a "Breakfast room".
The "Kitchen" is used for preparing meals (no one sits in there and eats.
The "Dining ROOM" is a "formal" room for when you have guests over or you want to have dinner (or any meal) at a formal dining table (ours can seat up to 12 people).
The "Breakfast Room" is off the Kitchen and looks out onto the backyard landscape and view down the valley behind the house.
It has a small table for four for eating an "informal" breakfast.
Hope that helps ;-)

In the past, in rich houses, it meant a separate dining room for breakfast. Usually, the main dining room in a great house was dark, huge and forbidding, so they used a sunnier, less formal room for breakfast. Today, it often means a small eating nook, where you could have an informal meal, usually attached to the kitchen.

A room where you eat breakfast - as opposed to a breakfast nook, a small table located in the kitchen. This is also different from the dining room, or a dine in kitchen.

a small space inside the kitchen fit for a small table where you can eat breakfast and very casual meals. The Dining room is mostly for dinner or fancy dinners. We dont even use our dining room unless we have company.

Any room you chose to eat breakfast in. Any other answer is just a matter of semantics.

It's the part of the kitchen area that makes an "eat-in kitchen" so called.
