People are quick to bash Bush about the gas prices. But they never know why they should be bashing him. First of all, the EPA mandates that additives be put in the fuel, making it cost a little more. Secondly, there is an estimated 10 billion barrels of oil sitting in Alaska, being protected by die-hard environmentalists. There is another 10 billion barrels of oil about 50 miles of the coast of Florida, and we are not drilling there. There is also another 50 billion barrels of oil in the Western Continental Shelf. We are not drilling in any of these places. You can thank the rest of the politicians for that one...Simple economics tell you that when demand is high and supply is low, the price is high. The closer supply comes to equating demand, the lower prices will be. The Minister of Oil for the country of Qatar, a major oil producer, said that if our politicians would just sit down and shut up and quit speculating the market, the prices could drop by 10 bucks a barrel. Lastly, and this is Bush's fault because he makes it sound like the responsibility lies with "Big Oil" by ordering investigations into price gouging, the government is making a whopping 50 cents a gallon of gas. "Big, Evil Oil" is only making 10 cents. So there you go...they're not that evil any more, are they? Sure the tensions in the Middle East are affecting the prices, as well as the facilities wiped out during major storms including Hurricane Katrina, but, and sadly, the bulk of the cost could be slimmed down within the next few years if our politicians wanted them to and Road Trips would no longer be a thing of the past...

High Gas Prices
1. It wasn't too long ago when you put $5 in your gas tank and it would give you quite a lot of gas. You could fill your lawn mower cheaper than $2. Now it takes $5 just to fill your gas can to carry to put it in your little mower engine.
Research past gas prices. That will tell you a bit about the economy at the different gas prices. Hurricanes cost money, supplies etc. and a war costs money. Have you checked out the prices on other things.
2006 is suppose to be prices adjustment year. Look for more things than just gas to be expensive. Check out economy. The history of the motor and see if there was once a motor in the late '70's that had decent gas mileage or were they all gas hogs? How much of supply is there, when was the first oil rig found. the transitions from previous alternative energy ways to oil and petro.
A small amount of reading on the net will have your homework done in no time just a little effort

It's a lot simpler than you think:

Tight supplies--very little supply cushion available.

High demand across the world--China is a good example of who is consuming most of the world's oil supply (22%).

Instability in the Middle East. Tensions with Iran.

Switch to different grades of gasoline derivatives during the summer and winter months.

And of course, there's hurricane season.
