The free trial that they do have for Sims 2 PC is the Sim creator module. You can get it here:

Other free stuff but this is different! Free trial for the ONLINE version of the game, called "Sims Online". It is a completely different game with graphics more like Sims 1. After the free trial it costs you a monthly fee to keep your membership.

The Sims 2 for PC is an incredible game. But not all computers can run it. Before breaking your back to get the game -- Do check out your system specs to be sure you actually can play the game. The expansions will need yet more resources so they have separate tests:

It's not a free download. If you buy it, you can run the registration number on the Maxis website and get special add-ons. If you try to get the game from some seedy "free" site, your registry files will be destroyed. It's worth buying, just make sure you have the right system requirements.
