Dodge motor, 318, v8, it locked up tight, wouldn't move. Put a lubicator down the spark plug holes to try loosening it up. Put a big wrench on the main pulley and the pulley now spins but the pistons don't move. So here is the q?, why does the main pulley stack turn but the pistons do not. I know why as I have already taken it apart. First correct answer will be chosen as best.

The pistons didn't move because you sheared the key in the crank noise. The pulley will turn but not the crankshaft.

The reason the main pulley stack turns and the pistons don't is because they aren't connected to one another. Something broke.
