Imagine that Florence Nightingale, that hard working 'lady of the lamp' and all round goodie, is alive and well.
You are both on a private jet with the pilot and the plane is about to crash. The pilot has a parachute and he can take one of you and double up.
So what would you say to the pilot to convince him that your life is worth saving more than good old Florence's?
I reckon you'd have to make it pretty good.

-I would think that if it holds two people, it will hold three, but I will suspend this belief in order to attempt to answer the question.

If I were to save myself and let Florence go down in flames, I would probably have to just grab the pilot and shove him out with his parachute on while I cling to him for my life, leaving poor Ms. Nightingale with a one-way ticket to kiss the pavement, because unfortunately I would just feel like a complete heel as I tried to talk him into how great I am as I'm asking him to leave her behind. -and, I don't think I could pull it off!

However, I tend to think of myself last in crazy situations and would probably make them take the parachute and then I'd look around for something I could use to lessen the speed/intensity of my fall like my trenchcoat or a sheet, blanket, seat cushion floatation device, anything-I-can-find, which may hopefully be enough to *not* kill me, but just break a lot of bones.

interesting question.

I figure that the pilot goes down with his ship and Flo and I take the parachute, since we're figuring.

That makes the best sense to me, as if the plane can be rescued from its nosedive, the pilot has the best chance of achieving that particular goal.

A smart individual would remove the parachute from the pilot with any means necessary and Florence can come with you.

because of the fact, odds are that i'm the only Libertarian on the airplane. My vote is one greater vote for a sane government. i'm subsequently an substantial component of the plan to shelter for my countrymen their liberty and sources. yet then, giving up the parachute to a teenager, or to a discern whose infants are no longer on the region may well be suitable. It says in the bible: No greater desirable love hath a guy than this: that he might lay down his existence for his brother. looks like a value tag to heaven. that may be able to be suitable. Be nicely.

Sorry but you cannot jump out of a private jet, the airspeed alone would snap your neck. I would probably point this to the lame pilot, who should be aware of the condition of the plane before taking off.

Depends on pilot. What if the pilot is a woman (since we're positing conditions) 25 years old and from Mongolia and has never heard of ole Flo'. Then, the way I figure it, Flo' gets the shaft.

I would knock the pilot out and take Florence with me, he can go down with the plane.

I probably wouldn't even try to convince the pilot at all. I'd probably feel too guilty if I made it out there alive at the price of someone else's life.

Well, Florence is going to heaven if she dies which is better than here I presume. I'm definitely going to hell so I should be saved as I can then avoid my eternal damnation for a little longer. Only seems fair to let her go to a better place.

i would call the pilot a p ussy for not giving it to the both of us. we are the passengers it is in his duty to care for all the passangers onboard.
Otherwise i would stay in the plane, thats a hell of a way to go.
