Yahoo! Personals is running an ad featuring a white man and a black woman. Would this have been done 40 years ago? Also, does it indicate in any way the direction in which our society / culture is headed?

Is this simply a question of wanting to know what people think, or is it your sentiment here? I notice that you didn't indicate! Would it have been more appropriate having a photo of a female dog & a white man or vice versa, wouldn't you? Anything, except one of us with one of yours, huh?

I applaud Yahoo! for featuring a white man and a black woman in an ad. Why not? The whole point of sites like Yahoo! Personals is to bring people together.

in the past, black and white segregation
was a problem in our society. we've moved on
and most of the people understand that
mixed races are increasing steadily.
having a white man and black woman add suggests
the unification of cultures and mixed races.
i mean i've heard of a chinese-jew
but never actually met one. possibly
in the future it might turn out that world would
seem like the "mixed" europeans who say
they're 5% polish, 5% german, 20% czech...
'cept that it would be 5% american, 5% japanese, 20% malaysian...
and thats just an example guess.

this was done 40 years ago and even before that, the media was not as big as it is today and was not focusing on that. however there were movies in the 50s with interracial couples, a bunch of Sidney Poitier movies come to mind.
So no this is nothing "new" the only thing different between then and now is we have the internet which gives people more access to interact with other types of people.

No, wouldn't have been done 40 years ago. Hopefully our society is heading into a more multi-cultural place. Good on Yahoo Personals, I think it's great that they recognise the fact that interacial couples exist.

Why would you think it's wrong? If you believe in God and creation, how do you know what color adam and eve were. If eden was located in a very warm climate as has been suggested it is likely that they could have had brown skin. What does it matter what color someones skin is? Inside we are all the same and I love seeing different cultures blending together, it's beautiful, knowing that we can all come together to create a better world. Please step out of the dark ages into the light!!!!

Wow someone has too much time on their hands.
Well same with me, but I have better things to think about.
Like, hating people no matter what colour they are.
Oh and PC people are losers. They are just afraid of saying what is really on their mind.
They are mostly the weak minded. I am tired of walking eggshells with these losers. We didn't have to do that in the 80s and I am not going to do that now. You can dislike me, but hey, not everyone is supposed to like me; and I don't care. That is what so good about being in "my" world. The freedom of choice is always there.

Why wouldn't it be? People have the right to choose who they want to be with no matter if they are of different races. No it wouldn't have been done 40 years ago but this is a new time of acceptance-Embrace it-you may be the one needing acceptance next!

Which society is that, American society. This is Yahoo and its an international forum. What happens in America should not be the overriding factor on how people should view the world and how they would want to live their life.
