It's a lot of fun if you like what it has to offer. I've been a couple of times, and I enjoyed both visits.
The Ferris wheel gives a great view of Dallas. Another ride also offered a view from up high, but it whipped my wife and me around like we were rag dolls. G-forces pushed us against our seats on the way up, then we lost our stomachs on the way down. I don't remember the ride's name, but I want to do it again.
There are also scarier, bungee-type rides, if you want that.
When we weren't riding, we were people watching, playing midway games and eating. All the food is bad for you, but it's tasty.
We also visited an auto show and saw a life-size statue of Elvis made out of butter. (You heard me right.) There are also plenty of farm animals on show, but we didn't go see any.
If you go in the day, take your sunscreen. At night, take your bug spray. I've heard there have been problems with fighting at the fair, but I didn't witness any. I did see plenty of security -- I think it's really been stepped up since 9/11.
It's pricey, but it's only once a year, so I figure why not splurge. Dallas grocery stores offer admission discounts around fair time, so if you decide to come, tell your cousins to look for those. Parking can be hectic, but you can take buses on some days.
Check out the Web site.

Yes, totally worth it. However one thing to avoid. October 7th is Texas/OU weekend and the game is played at the Cotton Bowl inside the state fair. Needless to say there are thousands of extra folks at the fair this weekend, so I would avoid it like the plague. Also, if you check the local papers or their website, there are certain days you can get free admission (or a discount) for a few cans of food donations. Look for good deals this way.

Since everything is bigger in Texas, i would thing the STATE fair would kick but! I would go. If it isn't that great (doubtful) at least you see your cousins, maybe meet some people , and you will know never to go again. Come on, the rodeo alone will probably be worth it, and the chili, the food, the atmosphere...go, come one, go!!!!

YES. The Texas State Fair is the biggest state fair in the country. It's so much fun - there is tons to eat and see and do. The weather is usually good, the rides are fun, the fair park musems are great. You won't regret going.

depends on how far your trip will be. if it is just a small thing to do with everything else then it will be okay. but if it is the only reason to come visit, please dont disappoint yourself. i love the state fair, but i only went when i lived in dfw.
fyi...if you do go, check the schedule for that day and avoid a day when the big football games are going on, just sheer madness.

Where else can you see the biggest cowboy in the world? And you haven't had a corn dog until you've had one at the place it was born. And the people watching is great--especially watching those people gnawing on those giant turkey legs all day long. crazy-fun

You will have a blast. Bring plenty of dough for everything fried and tons of cold beer. Check the site for any artists you may want to see, tons of good concerts.
