ok its a fall out boy hoody-sweatshirt that on the back has a heart-shaped shooting target that is dripping blood (barely any for that matter, only one drop), full of bullet holes, and has two guns (kinda like 9 millemeter pistols) by it and underneath all of this it says, "I have seen reasons why love is forever" ...its clearly NOT referring to a violent influence or anything like that...i think that its meaning that the heart is representing love, and even though that symbol of love has been shot-up, it still remains there...hence, "love is forever" ...my mom thinks it maybe means that if you love somebody so much, you kill them, or take them away, so that only you can have them; and even if they're gone, you still love them...this is a good point but I disagree, I don't that the shirt represents that...and besides thats a bad thing...I got this shirt from Hot Topic, and I'm 13...they wouldn't sell a shirt representing something bad, especially not to a minor, would they?

I dont know what the school would think of this shirt, but, can you please give me some advice/reasons as to how to convince my mom and the school to let me wear the shirt/why i should be allowed to wear the shirt for that matter?

Fall Out Boy also has pretty sarcastic lyrics too, don't they? I mean, yes, I do believe there are some lines from some of their songs that are referring to choking or stuff like that, but these lyrics are obviously sarcastic...

as a teacher i'd say your school probably wouldn't allow it. if it were up to me my students could wear whatever they want. you could wear a garbage bag for all i care so long as you show up and work in my class.
but if you want to try this i'd suggest backing up your theory with lyrics from the album. i don't think there's anything on that album about shooting people or killing for true love. although i admit i haven't heard the whole thing. if you have solid proof that it's symbolic of love and not violence they might be more inclined to listen to you.
bring the liner notes with you or make a copy of the lyrics of all the songs so they can look through and see for themselves.

well I would think guns blood hearts and holes would repersent a relationship where if you leave he'll kill you. anyway think about it is a 9 mil pistel in any form appropriate for school. of bullet holes or blood NO think about the psyco it takes to kill someone do you think they are going to psycoanalize that shirt to find hidden meaning? NO they are not. So wear it on the street of where ever else other than school. AND YES Hot Topic is a store that wants peoples money do you think they care about who they sell a shirt to as long as they sell it.

Why is it so important to you to wear this shirt to school? I know it seems a bit restrictive, but in the long run who cares? If you can wear this shirt wherever you want, then why wear it the one place where it may be construed as something that promotes violence?

I'm not saying your school is correct in not allowing you to wear it, but nowadays anything with blood/targets on it will be interpreted as violent, that's just how it is. I agree with you that it's not bad per se, but rather very slightly suggestive.

As for Hot Topic selling you something "bad", it depends on what your definition of bad is. By the way, how did you buy this shirt? You're saying your mom won't allow you to wear it (?) so I'm wondering who bought it for you.

Just realize that your mom cares about you, and other peoples perception of you. I know that you don't see the harm in wearing the hoddie, but your mom is only expressing concern for her daughters well being. Todays world is alot different than it was when your mom was your age, she's aware of what's going on in and out of schools today from fighting to shooting and does not want you to draw any negative attention towards yourself. Just don't wear it to school,it could be worse she could, not want you to wear it at all!

Let mom be right once in a while, it won't kill you...

i hate school uniforms and dress codes. i hate having to buy them. i hate having my son wear them. they are horrible.
but the fact remains that the school has complete discretion over what is permitted within its walls. it doesn't matter what YOU think it means. the only opinion that will matter is that of the administrator and if they allow you to stretch the boundaries then they open the floodgates for more students like you who think their clothes are worth an exception too.
you're fighting a losing battle, hun. save the sweatshirt and when you're legal and self-sufficient you can wear it all you want. but i'll bet by then you'll realize that it really wasn't all that worth fighting for to begin with.

I can't give give any reasons to get the school or your mom to agree with you. Even if you are mature enough to understand that violence is wrong that doesn't mean that everyone your age or even older is mature enough to "know better" i'm sure you wouldn't want to be responsible for someone immature doing something pertaining to violence because they thought it was "cool" think about it.

I wouldn't let my son wear it. It may not be promoting violence in your mind but to some other kids it may seem like it means guns are cool. It's just not a good idea for kids to be wearing stuff like that and it def. won't be allowed in a school.

Well, I hate to tell you this but a school is NOT going to let you wear it especially if it has guns on it. Sorry, you'll have to find something else.

um, stores will do anything to make a buck
they don't care if you're 13, all they care about is whether your parents sent you to the store with money..
anyway, find something else to wear, it's not worth the effort
