It is a small private college in the midwest in a small town and I'm living in the dorms.

What should I expect from other students and the teachers as far as how they behave and dress in class?

If I 'dress up' every other day in class as I usually do in black and such, would that be 'appropriate'. I think it looks nice.

I don't know how to expect things to be like in college.

Thank you for the answers. Could you 'please'offer me.. something to make me happy to take off the stress? :)

I was wondering of the attitudes of the professors in small schools and the students. When I got into highschool I guess I expected people to act more adult like and overall they -didn't-. I know that in some colleges people drink and party a lot. I didn't know if people were more casual at school or if some people still like to dress up because I do to express myself and have fun.

Just keep in mind that everyone else there probably feels the same way you do. Its scary to be put in a different situation just relax, be yourself and things will fall into place for you.

I attend university in a small town as well, you really shouldn't worry. I usually go to class in my pajamas (summer, anyway) and no one really cares. This is way beyond high school. It's no longer a fasion show, you really are there "just to learn". Like it was said before, just be aware of the dress code (if it exists), and be comfortable. Your going to need your brain prepared, not your wardrobe. Good luck!

I go to a big University, and dressing up is not necessary. If that is how you like to dress, go ahead. In my classes sutdents come in T-Shirts and Jeans. All of my professors are "professionaly" dressed.
My friend goes to a small College and they have a dress code. Check the rule book of your college.

Your professors couldn't care less about what you wear.

(Well, we would probably notice if you were nearly naked, and we'd probably have a negative value judgment about that, but only because it demonstrated an evident lack of social skills.)
