My late father, who died December 18, 2003 had liver damage. Yes, he drunk alot, BUT what was noticed was..the liver damage he had runs in the family. Why do I say this? Well his mom had liver damage, and died from it when fluid gathered around her heart. One of his brothers died from it. And his father died from it.

I was wondering if I should go to a doctor and get myself checked ot see what kind of condition that my liver is in?

Or, is there a way that I could possibly notice without going to the doctor?

Go see a naturopath that also does iridology. Visit www.trinityschool.org to find one near you. Imbalances in the body show up in the eyes, sometimes months before they show up in labwork.

Well, I would run to the doctor immediately, but I'd bring it up at your next regular check-up.

If you have problems digesting greasy food you are likely to have liver problems. (but if you don't have such problems doesn't nesessarily imply that you don't have liver damage)

Other signg like early age spots might be an indication.

Cholesterol that is high for no apparent reason.

Liver damage is very very common in old people. Liver, being a huge filter for your blood for the entire life, gets worn out I guess.

You should have a physical exam if you have not had one in the past year. This physical exam by your doctor should include palpating your abdomen to feel for an enlarged liver. In addition there are simple (liver function) blood tests that could be done if there is any doubt or concern. With your family history you should discuss your concerns with your doctor.

You need to go to the doctor and tell him this and ask it they will do the blood test for you that checks the liver enzymes. Good Luck.

Nope. You have to see a Doc. But the good news is that they can do a simple blood test for liver enzymes and such.
