I recently purchased some fish. One of them was a female guppy. I believe she carried fin rot into my tank because she died shortly after I bought her. Then a couple days later my goldfish of 5 years died. He had green speckles on him and the ends of his fins looked rotted. I immediatley began to believe it was fin rot. I got fungus killers & fin/tail rot killer. (My goldfish past away about a week ago) Now my male guppy is showing the same symptoms and his fins are defiently deteriating (sry about spelling). Im afraid the rest of my fish are going to catch the disease and die also. Today I purcahsed anti-bacterial remedy that is suppose to get rid of fin rot in a week. Any suggestions?

Change about half of the water in your tank using a gravel vacuum to remove fish waste. Every time you use a medication in your tank you kill off the beneficial bacteria in your tank causing spikes in ammonia and nitrites which weaken your fish and leave them open for more problems. Treat the tank with salt for freshwater fish and continue changing 30% of the water every third day for a few times while the beneficial bacteria re-grows.
p.s. the warmer the water the better guppies thrive(76-82°F)
goldfish require (65-75°F)

Have you removed the Carbon in your filteration system? Usually if you are medicating, you need to remove the carbon or it will asorb the medication and it will be less effective. The cause of your problem I am unsure of. How large of tank do you have, what kind of filtration do you have, how many fish do you have in the tank, etc? Goldfish should not generally be mixed with regular fresh water fish because they put more ammonia off due to they eat more and produce more waste. Have you had your water checked during all this? It sounds like you have more than one problem going on. Fin and tail rot does not cause green speckles on the body. However it does eat and deteriate the fins and tail. Sounds like from your discription it may be a combination of ick and fin and tail rot.

ok, the Corey lacking finnage; is the sting ragged/ tinged with white? if so, it rather is maximum in all danger a fungal an infection. If the sting is pink, it rather is in all danger a bacterial an infection. If neither, then your Corey would in basic terms have been nipped via his tankmates (sick fishies tend to get picked on) Aquarium salt (in a tub format, so which you do no longer could cope with the entire tank) will help kill off any fungus/micro organism, and promotes mucus production, which in turn facilitates forestall an infection. If no progression after a pair days, i might possibly pass onto harsher chemical treatments. it would be terrific to go the corey to a quarantine tank at the same time as he's sick so he can no longer infect tankmates or get picked on, and would oftentimes have a wreck. If he's bloated, use epsom salts, as this attracts extra fluids out and facilitates relive constipation, that would desire to be the concern. As regards his shimmering patch, i had bronze coreys and that they have been exceedingly shimmery, esp under image voltaic; yet while no longer element of the organic colouring it rather is a parasitic an infection. do no longer use meds until eventually you're particular tho; they are able to kill off a susceptible little fishy; for this reason I continually cope with with organic sea salt first. desire a number of it rather is effective!

Separate the fish with the disease from the other fish in the tank.
Put some anti-bacterial medicine in the bowl or tank with the infected fish and also in the tank with the other fish.(Around 7-10ml should be put). Also, clean the tank with the other fish immediately after removing the infected fish.(This should be done before putting the medicine).Try this for a couple of days.

Fin rot is not generally continuous. It's an opportunistic infection. Either your tank has high levels of ammonia, and/or nitrates. Or you have another disease infecting your fish tank. I'd check your nitrate, and ammonia levels, and use a trisulfate antibiotic.

the main cause of these diseases is a dirty tank. make sure you have a python cleaning tube to clean your tank. try not to use so many chemicals. the more chemicals you use, countereact against each other. all depends on what size tank you have also. if it is a small tank. treat them with one cure not two or three. if it is a large tank you shouldnt treat in a large tank anyway. it will mess up your water quality. it also messes up your ph levels your oxygen levels your nitrates, nitrites, be careful when you use these chemicals . if you dont follow instructions you will kill your fish. if you have a ten gallon tank on the side, use that ten gallon tank just for treating your sick fish. dont treat the big tank.

If you have good water conditions are your ammonia levels are at 0, then a medication like Melafix should work if the fin rot hasn't advanced too far.

when you clean your tanks use aquarium salt... just a bit and rinse it well. Someone at the pet store told me that just a pinch of it once in a while helps keep the tank "bug" free. I also use a water conditioner and fish coating liquid that I bought at the pet store.

do a water change before adding new chemicals.

If possible, seperate any infected fish from the others as soon as possible, and boil the net in water to kill the germs. If you are heating the water in your tank, lower the temperature slightly. Warm water grows infections. I hope this helps.
