Hitler was obsessed with both traditional Christianity and the occult. My guess is that he chose 1000 to correspond with the 1000 year reign of peace predicted in the Book of Revelation, thus identifying himself with the conquering Christ.

Edit: take this website with a grain of salt. The author does come up with the same theory as I did, however:

He was total maniac. He decided that 1000 is enough. Besides, he apparently understood the human nature pretty well. 1000 is something that living humans can potentally care for, but 1000000 is too much to even think about. Too far in the future. he was probably implying that after 1000 years there will be better solutions than Reigh.

Just like when the movies were made in 70ies - they talk about 2012 as a distant future. Kind of funny to see them now.

becuase he was in the thule society and other groups and they brought satanism to the nazi party, and he wanted to be like a messia or something, he wanted to make like a kingdom rather than a nation, he wanted the world, he was being evil. i remember he staged a terror attack, settiing his own bases on fire, blaming it on his enemies, maby polan at the time, and he started a civil war, jailed his own people, and took off from there doing other things, by evil and satanism, like skull and bones.

1,000 would have been impressive enough. No empire has lasted that long, at least in today's era.
