Would you believe that a yard of fabric is a yard long? But there is a bit more to it than that -- fabrics come in various widths (such as 54 inches), and you need to do a bit of planning with respect to the orientation of the fabric and whether you can get several panels out of a single length of fabric.

A yard is three feet long no matter what. However the fabric comes in different widths. So your piece of fabric will be say 45" wide and 3 feet long if it's only a yard.
The window is 22 feet tall? Or 22 inches tall? At 22 feet you'd need 7.5 yards of fabric. At 22 inches, you'd only need one yard.

Fabric can come in a 45 inch wide or it can be about 60 inch. If you go with home decor fabric most of that is 58 to 60 inches wide. A yard of fabric is 36 inches.
