Because they are familiar to them. The thought of starting a new relationship with someone they barely know scares them so they go back to the one they already knew. Also, they somehow feel that the relationship can still be salvaged and so they go back to try and work things out.

Good question. This is a problem I incurred with my ex. Her childs father treated her like crap and to this day has nothing to do with their child. However, throughout our relationship she displayed signs that he was the one she loved and still wanted to be with him. She would break up with me for a few months and then try to get back with me once she realized that there was no hope for them getting back together. Seeing the situation for what it was I cut my losses and moved on with my life. For some unforseen reason, that goes far beyond my rationalization people seem to love the ones that dog them out. I guess it is our needs as humans for acceptance. When people are kicked to the curb my best guess is they want a second, third, fourth, or whatever the case may be, chance to redeem themselves and save face. Hope this helped. Peace and God bless

not really sure why, we all have problems w/ letting go and the love thing is stronger than our common senses and knowin what should be done, thats why alot of men and women have been killed by a spoise, alot is fear, of losing what they have or whats out there and how to live on own and also failure to family and friends and the life and children, its always the hardest thing to do when you leave when you really love someone w/ all your heart even when you know it can cause your death, the heart is the strongest and can control everything in your life.

Because usually it is the hurt that they feel that makes them feel so vulnerable and therefore they would give anything to make the pain stop and this generally means taking the easy way out which is giving in and just forgetting anything ever happened

Old habits die hard. Some people can't stand being alone and would rather be with someone who they know in their heart isn't right for them, but rationalize that its better than being alone.
Others go back because they haven't found anything better. And others are just gluttons for punishment.

Because they need help to get out of the cycle the pattern they have come to know.Abused people don't know any other way and they need to be shown how to trust and start over. The first step is to move out get counseling and stop telling them self's everything is OK. Don't let any one abuse you verbally, mentally, physically or other wise!!
