My nails have never really been long and now they are but they are really thin and brittle. Can you tell me any ways to make my nails thicker and less brittle?

I have very long and strong nails so I know this works:

1. Each time you wash your hands, push your cuticles back.
2. File your nails straight across and never on the sides because this promotes breakage and peeling.
3. File your nails instead of clipping them. File them from the side to the middle.
4. Keep them painted (with clear polish, Sally Hansen has great nail strengtheners) at all times and add a coat each day for 7 days then take it off and repeat.
5. When you paint your nails be sure to paint the tips and underneath so the nail polish doesn't just sit on top waiting to be chipped off.
6. Use olive oil or vitamin E oil on your clean nails and cuticles and massage it in then wash it off completely.
7. Don't use your nails as tools -- use your fingers to open soda and scissors for bags of food, etc.
8. Wash hands in warm water, too hot takes moisture and natural oils out and too cold makes them brittle and dry too.

Try "Nutra Nail" by Sally Hansen. It works pretty good, you put it on like fingernail polish, about 3 times a day or so.

Eat one gram of protien for every ten pounds you weigh, every day. Also, gently push your cuticles back. It is a good idea, if you do dishes in the sink, to wear gloves to protect your nails.

get a nail strengthener go to a salon and ask if they have NAIL ENVY. you apply it everyday for about 2 weeks then take if off and reapply it. it will strengthen them up.

perhaps you won t like it , but something that will definately help would be cutting garlic in small pieces and rub your nails before sleeping, and will notice the difference.
