The whole purpose of "trick or treat" is dress up in another costume and pretend you are someone else. It's a tradition based on the roaming spirits during the SamHain holiday but Christians made them bad so the spirits had to be scared away instead of welcomed like in the original holiday. The treats the children ask for are based on the food given out to spirits during the original Halloween or SamHain holiday in Ireland. So the kids are saying you can either "trick" us by scaring them away or "treat" us giving us treats for coming to your door during this holiday.

its for fun. yes Halloween is a pagan religion of sorts, but because so much different religions twist even Christs path. Halloween can be turned into good as well. it can be a teaching tool for fighting sin and evil. it can be as some call it a harvest festival for crop season and still allow trick or treat. have them dress in positive costumes and if they ask why its a dark way in decor or even costumes teach them the truth then and let them decide. ask them why they like Halloween or ask if they know the meaning of it. i kids know the truth , but like the candy issue and its a family thing we can do together. there are even churches that do carnivals to keep kids fro the bad you can look in the paper or call around for that when it gets near. did you know that one religious group teaches that Halloween is a time to remember those loved ones that past(for wiccans they take it to far and try to talk to the dead, only to be speaking to bad spirits )i know this because my husband used to be wiccan. but like other holidays it can be used just to think of fond memories of people like memorial day. you don't have to just remember people on memorial day. the door to door part i don't understand myself. hope you get that answered.

Because it's an American Holloween tradition. Plus their costumes aren't always scary. In fact the way it's celebrated and the reason it is, have nothing to do with the history of it, nor for that matter, what other kids do on it.

Because it's fun.
European immigrants brought it with them. I think people went looking house to house for "soul cakes" the more cakes they got the better off their dead loved ones would be _November 1- All souls day
The costumes were to disguise themselves from evil spirits

Jeez do you heavily want to ask a question so user-friendly as this? "satisfied halloween" "cool costumes" "tremendous costumes" "fantastic costumes" "scary costumes" "who're you meant to be"? "i love your wand" "i love your broomstick" "right here you bypass" "oh seem it really is...." and sooo a lot more desirable to assert!
