Five years isn't a very long time for things to change that much. America will face the same battles and problems. There will be a different president, some brave soul who has the leadership and enjoys the challenge. The USA will still be in debt with more people mooching off those who pay taxes. We will still be a strong faith-based society. Gasoline will probably be about $4.00 a gallon. I hope you will still be here and me too.

Stem cell research from around the world will start changing our lives with amazing once-and-for-all-cures for disease and even repairs to damaged bodies, including the end of paralysis, blindness, and diabetes. We'll even be able to regrow teeth and limbs lost in fire and trauma. We're already taking a peek at a photo we made of the beginning of the universe, and, in five years, we'll be looking BEYOND that original singularity . . . beyond the Universe. One or more of the planned space elavators will actually become a realistic plan and we will begin to build one. We'll have a wonderful new paint that is, in effect, a computer screen everywhere you paint it! People will use it on everything, but especially on their cars and architecture, interior and exterior. With video of surroundings, we'll be able to make our cars and homes blend in, or "play" our favorite videos, etc. We'll get quite creative with that. As much as everyone has feared "Big Brother's" total invasion of privacy, the tables actually turn and the public uses video and invasion of privacy to more closely and continuously monitor all public officials including their meetings / behaviors / conduct/ and dealings. We make a photon. Some of the states of America, especially the west, quietly leave the Union and enter into alliances and contracts with foreign nations on their own, mostly due to having been so short-sighted about water rights/development/shortages issues, and the cost of energy (gas at the pump = $10.30 / gallon.), and because the Federal government will be unable to bail out states or prevent them from leaving the "Union". People in the states that leave feel excited and great unity about the change and the pilgrim's hope for something better than starving and bickering without educations or jobs in a rigorous golbal job market (per the "Trickle Down Theory"). A lot of educated Americans emigrate to Thailand and Malaysia, but there's trouble with Muslims there. Dead Zone ocean blooms continue to expand in size/impact/frequency. They devastate local economies worldwide and become a bigger problem than we expected they would be in the global warming theater, or, roll-out. Children will be THE political issue in the U.S. because CHILDREN are demanding their right to vote in five years' time. They get it, as they should. We debate animal rights based on astonishing, new findings made in neuroscience that indicate a commonality of consciousness among all lifeforms, plant and animal, a debate that becomes the "Scopes Trial" of this 21st century. We will solitarily homeschool versus group school, and the world will rejoice because when we begin to self-study once again, we return to Reason and Individuality once again. And, the turmoil in the Middle East kind of finally fizzles out forevermore and no one even seems to care when they find out it's because the Swiss poured drums of estrogen into the water system of every nation in the world and so we all live happily ever after in peace smoking pot, making love, and working our American asses off trying to catch up with our quantum mechanics requirement for a paycheck on the world market that gets us a wee bit above poverty level. We Americans will get used to that for awhile, though. Poverty, that is. But, we do come back, even the BabyBoomers, and we KICK BUTT in the world once again with MATH and SCIENCE!! You'll see. All the above is contingent or course, on our world surviving H5N1.

If a democrat is in office, you can count on many terrorist attacks on American soil. We will have to live like the people in Israel, never knowing when the next attack is going to happen, but knowing it will and you better be ready.
