The "C:\My Downloads\" is not a standard "My XXXX" folder in Windows unlike the "My Documents" folder on your desktop which is in the Documents and Settings directory structure. Whichever program(s) that created it and use it for downloads will have to be opened and a setting will have to be changed to redirect downloads into the new "D:\My Downloads\", which you can create yourself ahead of time.

On a similar note, you can change the directory Windows uses for the "My Documents" folder simply by right-clicking and going to Properties. The default tab that the properties window opens up to should have a space where you can specify the new location of the folder.

Hope this helps!

Once you put another partition on it you wont be able to change this unless you purchase partitioning software. There isnt any valid reason to do this short of putting two operation systems on it because if your drive goes bad, d wont work either! All you will be accomplishing is adding confusion for yourself! You will not have gained a thing! If you are simply trying to separate files in documents, simply creat a folder called newdocs or documents2 or something.

you should be able to do some sort of registry edit to change the default to d: otherwise, move your "documenta and settings" folder to d: and that will move it.
