I saw some old newsreels where they had such teams and the women played against other female teams. This was during the 2nd world war. They were prettty good too! Could they compete against the men, can they stand up to them in name calling?

What if all the female baseball players were bodybuilders with strength and endurance? Think a man is going to argue with a woman built like that?

You're talking about the All American Girls Professional Baseball League that played during World War II and into the early 50's.

To my knowledge, no woman has tried out for a major league team. I think there are women out there who are good enough to play in the major leagues. I do not think that an all female team could compete with all male teams, however. The hand-eye coordination is there to make contact with the ball and to play defense. However, woman generally do not have the physical strength that men do. They would mostly be singles hitters through the entire line-up, it would be like having middle infielders for your entire batting order. Nor would most women have the armstrength necessary to be a major league pitcher.

Like I said, I think some women could play at the major league level. If we ever see any, they will probably be middle infielders; positions that require good reflexes and good hands and that aren't expected to hit homeruns.

No offense, but I hope you're joking. There's absolutely no way that women could compete with men in baseball, any more than they can in basketball, hockey, tennis or golf.

Yes, there was the AAGPBL during World War II, but the level of play was nowhere close to being on the level of a professional men's league. This is likely why women/girls gravitate towards softball as they grow up, because they can't compete with men after a certain age.

I'm not trying to knock women's athletics - I'm a huge women's tennis fan - but they just can't compete with men in baseball.

Men and women should not compete against eachother in general. There is no reason for it. There is too much difference in the athletic abilities between the sexes. Sure, woman can beat men on occasion as was the case in tennis in the match between Bobby Riggs and Chris Everett, but Chris Everett was in her 20's and Bobby Riggs was in his 50's. I have known of only one woman who competed in minor league baseball about 5 years ago. She was a pitcher and did ok, mainly because she threw so slow that hitters couldn't wait on her. It was mainly a minor league promotional deal to get people to the park. I have no problem with women playing baseball, but 99% of the women have decided that softball in a better game for them.

Women are excellent players but would lose every game to the men. Even at the college level, women cannot compete against men.

Who would want to see a team that loses by several hundred runs... there isn't a woman on this planet that could hit a major league fastball out of the infield... it would be pitiful...

Because the men would cry when the women beat them. And there's no crying in baseball.
