find out why your mom doesnt like them. If it's because of the swear words, download the radio versions of the songs. If it's because you play it too loud, turn it down when she's around. Ask her the reason she doesnt like that genre of music and then discuss a compromise so that you can enjoy your music and she can still be happy.

How old are you? Does your mom still wipe you after you go to the bathroom? If you are old enough to do that by yourself, then you are old enough to listen to whatever you want to listen to. Just don't listen to it so loud that she can hear it, and don't start acting all rebellious towards her. She's probably worried that you are going to want to get body piercings, and start dressing like a freak. Just don't do those things, and maybe she will accept the fact that you like punk music. Even if you like a certain kind of music, it doesn't mean that you have totally embrace everything it's about. You have to show some respect to your mom, cuz she brought you into this world, and she can take you out.

Holy Hell... I feel so sorry for you... Sadly, your parents seem to have control to the point where you can't just blatantly disobey them, so secrecy seems to be the only option. I know you said you don't have access to money, but is it possible you could earn some, or have some extra around? That way you could buy a cheap CD player (Or get one from a friend. A lot of people have CD players before iPods or other mp3 players, and don't need them any more afterwards. One of my friends offered me her CD player when my iPod got stolen for this reason). If any of your friends like the same music as you, you could have them burn you CDs. Then just listen to music when your parents aren't around, and hide the evidence the rest of the time.

This makes me feel so much better about my parents... they criticize my taste, but they don't try to stop me from listening to it.

Sheesh. That's a little harsh of your mom. Just because she has an opinion doesn't mean she has to force everyone else to have it too. Just do what the people above said, and invest your money in an MP3 player, or get a nice portable CD player, which is cheaper than an MP3 player. Then buy your own CDs with your own money.

Headphones! Spend your allowance on headphones and enjoy....we've all been there...."Joanie turn down that infernal racket"...and now even my grandmother knows some classic rock tunes (and she's 90!).

If you can't listen to it in the house, then save if for your walkman/mp3 player and enjoy it while you're out.

Is it fair that she's imposed the ban on you....I can't say...does she think the lyrics are too graphic? Is it the head banging racket? You could always approach her. run through your cds and determine the least offensive ones that you can listen to at home?

Try telling your mom what you said above ...and explaining why you like it so much...and maybe get a song of that genre that gives it a positive image...so to show your mom that it wont ruin you and some of the songs are good

That is ridiculous for your mom to control the genre of music you like. You cant control what someone enjoys!
Listen to it whenever you won't get caught...seriously! And don't feel guilty about it, you aren't doing anything wrong.

I always though Punk was about rebellion - how can you rebel if your parents LIKE your music?

Listen to your music .You don't judge her so she shouldn't judge you . Its not like your doing drugs so it shouldn't be a big deal.
