I had a guinea pig for several years (his name was Milford!). He was the coolest pet ever. He did not bite, and he was very easy to take care of. Cleaned his cage once a day, with a full empty-out once a week and put fresh wood shavings in. He ate just regular pellets and alfalfa, with fresh lettuce for treats (he would squeak every time he heard the fridge open 'cause he thought he was getting some!!). He purred when he was happy, squeaked occasionally, but was generally a very quiet little guy, I would highly recommend one as a pet. In fact, we are going to get one for my kids for Christmas this year as a first pet.

Guinea pigs will get lonely so they need lots of handling or a buddy. They are quite vocal but will scream really loud if they get lonely.

They are really friendly. I suggest getting a female since males need a bit more care.

Guinea pigs should only be housed with guinea pigs. Rabbits may injure a pig and they have different nutrition requirements. The cage should be large enough to fit toys. BTW they do not run in wheels or balls so don't waste your money on one. When cleaning the cage just use a small carrier.

Like with all small pets, they need chew toys to keep their teeth down. If they do not have chews....they will often chew on the cage and/or have over grown teeth that will grow into their lips and they will starve to death. Also they need hay.

get a book...its a must.

Carefresh is honestly a great litter and worth the money. Get some.

btw dont feed them green leafy foods as this will give them the runs

guinea pigs are shy and sweet animals they are friendly and east to care for. they like to eat veggies. carrots, lettuce, etc... they need company so get two or three minimum so they can be happy. might want to get them fixed unless you want babies because they reproduce like bunnies. i have never known one to bite people. good luck.
