No you don't have to go into the sun. That is the whole point of "self-tanners". Be careful around ankles, knees, elbows, & hairlines. These areas tend to "grab" color. Try putting regular lotion on these spots 1st. Then apply self tanner and I can't stress enough how important it is to wash hands quickly and completely! And if you're doing this for some special occasion, please let me stop you now. Self-tanners take some practice. If you're not in a hurry get one of the "glow" lotions, like Jergen's Natural Glow. It is more lotion than self-tanner and you won't look like a kindergartner has been using you as his canvas. If this is for a special occasion, let me suggest either going to a salon that offers self-tanning and having it professionally done or try Sally Hansen's Airbrush Leg. It can be used all over. It blends in like make-up. You can swim w/ it , if you pat yourself dry, DON"T Rub! and it dries quickly. Good Luck!

You will get tan without the sun if you use self tenner. Usually self tanner doesn't have sunblock in it so you would have to be careful if you wore that in the sun with nothing else. PS if this is the first time you are using self tanner go easy around your knees, elbows and ankles and wash your hands immediately after.

No. You don't have to go out in the sun. The self tanning lotion adds its own color to your skin. It is usually on the orange side.

no if it is self tanning then you do not have to be in the sun...it does help if you spread it all over you real even and if you want to sit out in the sun i think it does make the color better...i have only been to a tanning bed once and i enjoyed that....but otherwise i am as white as i can be because i have not been out in the sun much....

No you do not have to go in the sun actually the instructions usually suggest not wearing any clothes for a suggested amount of time. Just follow the instructions on the bottle and spread evenly, lightly around knees, elbows, toes, fingers and wash your hands soon after applying and you'll be fine

Hi ... self tanning lotion means that you "dont have to sit in the sun" ... Loreal makes a nice one...but you have to remember to rub it in all the little teeny weeny cracks of your skin (ie. ankles...toes...inside the arms, elbows) ...otherwise, you'll be striped !!!

No you can buy ones that just tint your skin, no sun at all. A great one to try is the Vaseline brand in the yellow bottle.
