1. Cheaper, easier means of seeings whats in the center of the earth. (theoretical physics, sonar)
2. No material known to man can resist the stresses induced by such a dig.
3. Temperature, pressure, noxious gases, and any other number of variables would kill any attempt.

Project Mohole, named after a geologist whose last name was Mohorovic (I think that's the correct spelling), was attempted by the U.S. There was also a Russian attempt that made it a little further. In neither case did the hole get more than a few miles deep.

It was abandoned because no one could get a metal that could withstand the extreme temperature to drill that far.
